Bobcat Company has taken the covers off its first Tier 4-compliant 700 frame-size loader – the S740. According to Bobcat, S740 is powered by an engine that is under 75 horsepower and doesn’t require a diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).
“The new Bobcat S740 skid-steer loader boasts the highest rated operating capacity in the under 75-horsepower skid-steer loader class, and provides customers with a large, powerful machine for working in construction, landscaping, agriculture, and buildings and grounds as well as other market segments,” Bobcat says in a release.
Bobcat S740 skid-steer loaders use a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) to meet Tier 4 emission standards, but without the need for a DPF. The DOC is a special catalyst that reacts with engine exhaust upon contact and transforms combustion byproducts into substances like water and carbon dioxide.
“The Tier 4-compliant Bobcat non-DPF solution was achieved by designing an ultra-low particulate combustion (ULPC) engine,” says Bobcat. “The ULPC is accomplished through a specially designed engine combustion chamber that significantly reduces the amounts of particulate matter created during combustion. Therefore, Tier 4 emissions compliance can be achieved without using a DPF.”
The S740 joins the M-Series line, which includes 11 skid-steer models. As a vertical-lift-path machine, Bobcat says the S740 loader can lift loads higher, making it easier to clear high-sided truck boxes and hoppers.
Like all M-Series skid-steer loaders, the S740 features a cab-forward design that moves the operator closer to the attachment for improved visibility. The new loader has the largest cab door opening on the market.
Windows on the sides and rear of the cab are larger in size to provide more visibility to the tires and back of the machine.
Operators also have the choice between standard foot pedal hydraulic controls, the Advanced Control System (ACS) or the Selectable Joystick Controls (SJC).
